Earth Day volunteer event promoted by NAFTA as part of Green Regions
Earth Day is an international holiday with events held globally to draw attention to the deteriorating condition of the environment and to promote green behavior. For several years now, NAFTA has celebrated Earth Day with volunteers coming together to help clean up waste that has accumulated in natural surroundings. Once again, we pitched in and helped out by providing protective gloves, waste bags, bulk containers and other necessary tools.
Approximately 90 volunteers came out and were able to fill three large containers with waste. The cleanup crew included local residents, fishermen and pupils from Plavecký Štvrtok’s primary school. We are pleased for NAFTA’s support to have enabled the collection of about 40 cubic meters of waste and the cleanup of all sites that had been marked for it. A new and beneficial feature of this year’s event was small trees and bushes planted by the pupils.
Through its Green Regions initiative, NAFTA is organizing volunteer events to carry out these community service activities. They give municipalities the opportunity to improve conditions for their residents and show them they care for their home, and to provide a splendid opportunity for local people to get more informally acquainted with their neighbors.
